The Hérault is a department made for hiking. From the coast to the foothills of the Cévennes to the lakes, nothing is lacking to satisfy the appetite of hikers. We have selected here a dozen very beautiful hikes in the Hérault.
A beautiful 6km loop hike in the heart of the 12 hectares Domaine d’Anglas organic vineyard. Without great difficulties and with little difference in altitude, this organic hike can be done in running, mountain biking, on foot and even on horseback. Along the way, the views are magnificent. As much on the medieval castle of Brissac as on the Cévennes, the Gorges de l’Hérault or Mont Aigoual. Along the way, 17 information panels, orientation tables and a clearing for the picnic.
At the end of this hike through this vineyard in Appellation Terrasses du Larzac, you will be entitled to a free tasting of the cuvée of your choice that will take place in the pretty shop of the vineyard which is located at the Camping du Domaine d’Anglas.
The Cirque de Navacelles is part of the Grands Sites de France. As such, it is a must-see in the region for those who love the great outdoors. The hiking tour will take you to the famous Cascade de la vis and the Moulins de la Foux. This circuit of medium difficulty guarantees you spectacular. The route is a dozen kilometres long for an estimated duration of 5 hours and with a height difference of 500m.
It is a very nice hike that we recommend here. It combines the pleasure of walking with the discovery of one of the most beautiful villages in France. A little surprise! Once you get to the top of the plateau, you can see the Mediterranean Sea. You feel your wings growing. Take the time before or after the hike to walk in the alleys of Saint-Guilhem-le Désert and to go to cool off under the huge plane tree in the Place de l’Église. The loop is about ten kilometers long for a duration of 4H30. The altitude difference is 600m. A nice walk in the Hérault for the day.
This hike is for lovers of panoramic views. It is indeed possible to make the complete tour of Lake Salagou in order to enjoy magnificent views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The trail is quite climbing and requires a good physical condition but the game is worth it. It takes about twenty kilometers and 6 hours of hiking to cover the ruffe hills (typical red land of the place) that surround the artificial lake.
This hike is a classic of the Occitanie region and is not accessible to all considering the altitude difference (1366m) and its duration. Count 8 hours of walking. But the show is there. This famous trail of 4000 steps takes you from the village of Valleraugue and takes you to the meteorological observatory of Mont-Aigoual. A beautiful hike in Herault on one of the emblematic peaks of the region. The walk is easy and can be done in the afternoon to enjoy a grandiose panorama at the top on the ridge line of the cliff. In a little more than 2 hours, with a height difference of 320m, you will enjoy the garrigue and also the landscape on the Mediterranean Sea, the Larzac plateau and also the Séranne.
This is a very nice hike of the Hérault. Rather reserved for the knowledgeable walkers. Starting from the village of Puechabon, this loop of 18km and 500m of altitude gives access to the Belvedere du Berger. This high point gives a magnificent view of the village of Saint-Guilhem-le Désert. This hike also allows you to discover the Gorges de l’Hérault ending at the Pont du Diable, a curiosity not to be missed in the region.
It’s like the Dolomites and the views to the Mediterranean and the Canigou are breathtaking. This beautiful hike is of medium difficulty. Count about three hours for a 7 km route and a 300m altitude difference that takes you to the heights of Lake Salagou. The departure is next to the tourist office of Mourèze.
A magnificent hike from a typical village of the lower Cévennes. Taking a little altitude through forests and trails, you will discover the beauties of the Buèges Valley, the Cevennes mountains and a breathtaking view of the nearby Mediterranean Sea. A visit of the village is necessary after the effort. It is a very pleasant loop in laces lasting 6 hours for 14 km and a difference in altitude of 735m.
The mountain of the Hortus faces the Pic Saint-Loup. This hike of medium difficulty allows access to the summit. The panorama is fantastic, with the Mediterranean Sea on one side and Mont Ventoux on the other. The hike can be continued by visiting the ruins of the castle of Viviourès. There are several routes on the Hortus, some of which are reserved for experienced hikers. The route chosen here forms a 7 km loop for about 3 hours.
